Bianca

I’m originally from the Netherlands where I spent 22 years of my life but I now live, work and play in Melbourne, Australia.

My background and training is in international business and management and at the moment I work full-time as a marketing officer at a Melbourne university. I really enjoy my day job and the interaction with people I get out of it, but I love being creative and explore the world of graphic design and craft as well.

It all started a few years ago when I developed a creative itch that needed desperate attention.

I started experimenting with programs like photoshop and illustrator and did a few short courses. I loved experimenting with design so much that I started designing patterns that I printed on textiles. I started boutique screen printing studio Ink & Spindle with two friends, which was great fun but I missed being creative in business too so I went back to a full-time marketing role. Soon enough the creative itch returned and I started creating again.

This time around I matched my passion for design with my love for paper, the result is miki.o design. I still work full-time in marketing and love being creative in my spare time.

The reason I started designing wedding stationery is because I’ve seen many invitations over the years and nothing has ever made me excited and think ‘I’d love that for my wedding’. I’m not married, yet, but I feel that if my designs make me smile they would make others smile too. I’m not into bows and frills and try to design clean and simple but eye catching and quirky invitations. My inspiration comes from many different sources including memories, travel, books, pictures, websites, objects, nature and geometry.

I also design stationery that helps make your day easier and prettier. My notepads were all born from my own personal needs. I’m a list maker, an organiser and for the past few years I had been planning my weekly meals. It was time to say goodbye to scraps of paper and glamorize the shopping experience.

In the spare time that I have left I love to cook, read, walk, ski and travel. Last year I spent 4 weeks in South America, which was an amazing experience. Peru was my absolute favourite. We also went to Hawaii, a place I want to return to. This year we’re off to visit my folks back home, but we’re also planning to sneak in some traveling. I’d like to visit Prague & Vienna.
