Accessories designer, stylist, PR
What is your professional or training background?
Art, sociology and language have been major interests since high school. I studied Arts at Deakin University, did Copywriting via Melbourne University, and have completed a million and one short courses. I’m a big fan of continued learning, both formal and informal. And of course, I learn on the job a lot.
What do you make, create or do?
I design & make jewellery, am about to launch my newly-designed line of handbags, do PR/marketing for a small handful of local creatives, and styling for musicians, models, photographers and designers.
What other creative areas would you like to explore as a side-project to your current work, or move into full-time?
I really want to set up some almost-free, low-cost jewellery-making classes for under-skilled/unemployed local women/youth (tapping into creativity/building confidence/giving people a skill they can ‘sell’ – perhaps have a market at the end of the series of classes where people can come and purchase what the graduates have made) and further expanding into other ‘making & doing’ training as I get like-minded creatives on board, but upon investigation it seems there is not really much in the way of public funding/assistance available for this kind of venture. Its on the back-burner, its something I really need help with to get it off the ground.
Have: enthusiasm, persistence, creativity
Need: ability to say no, bookworking skills, ability to ask for help instead of trying to do it all myself
