What is your professional or training background?
Trained as a fine artist and graphic designer.
What do you make, create or do?
I create illustrations for children’s book and for my online shop. I also create the occassional spot illustration for advertising, newspapers and magazines. I am also a crafty creature who loves to fossick around at home be it knitting, crocheting, cooking and crafting, I love “home-made”.
What other creative areas would you like to explore as a side-project to your current work, or move into full-time?
I really enjoy running my online shop and would like to take it further. It is a pleasure being in the thick of it, being the one responsible and juggling the multitude of tasks. l like the one on one with customers too. Aside from that, I love illustrating books but I long to capture and put down on paper the many stories I have lurking around in my head. Writing is another pleasure for me but it’s a slippery little fish! Writing AND illustrating children’s books is something I am working on.
What skills do you have that help you run your business, or what skills would you like to develop?
I have been running my own business since 2002 and have developed some solid business skills since then. Time management is a skill that I am pretty good at but need to get even better at since the arrival of our little boy. Full time mama plus running a business from a home studio equals a challenge!
List five people, businesses or websites/blogs that keep you motivated and inspired, and why?
Top of the list without a doubt, my little man of 18 months old and my honey hubby.
