La Micia Cooking
What is your professional or training background?
I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for more than 18 years in Australia, Italy, England, USA and Scotland. My experiences include cooking for a crew of 13 on a luxury super yacht cruising around the Caribbean and French Polynesian islands. Also while living in Italy for a period of 3 years, I worked for an Italian Cooking and Language School (Rocca dei Malatesta) and learnt hands on authentic Italian cooking from an Italian chef in a renown local Restaurant called Osteria La Gatta, my job at the language school was to organise activities around truffle hunting and cheese making and teaching regional wine tasting and appreciation. During this time I also assisted my in-law’s in making the local cakes for their bar.
What do you make, create or do?
I run/hold hands on Italian cooking classes in your own home, or team building for businesses in their own work places. Hold workshops for Community Centres, and I’m the Pasta/Gnocchi trainer for Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation Training Day.
What other creative areas would you like to explore as a side-project to your current work, or move into full-time?
Maybe selling my own kitchen utensils or aprons etc…
What skills do you have that help you run your business, or what skills would you like to develop?
Skills I have are, flexibility, organisational, people skills, communicating. Skills I would like to develop how to be a better sales person….I’m sure there are plenty of other skills I need as well…
Stephanie Alexander’s Kitchen Garden Foundation, inspires me as I get to be involved in my local community as a volunteer in the Collingwood College Kitchen. Having grown up in a small country town, I know how important community involvement is.
Samantha Taylor from The Powder Room, who like me started her business not long ago and we share our ideas off each other.
