Even though it is only August, I've been thinking recently about how far the CWC has come this year.
The CWC started off as a small group in 2004, with about a dozen women attending each meetup. But it's popularity steadily increased over the years and by January 2011 we were reaching 250 women on the mailing list.
Perhaps it was in part due to the website relaunch
in April, or our activity on Facebook
, but in six short months the list has grown to almost 800 women and our event RSVPs grow bigger still! (Hi, everyone!).
Clearly the CWC is becoming a force in Melbourne's creative community.
Clever and creative ladies in Melbourne are networking and making new friends left, right and centre through the CWC - speakers get new clients, employers find new staff members, makers get new stockists, twitter friends put faces to names - it's great to keep hearing stories of women connecting and collaborating through the CWC.
In June we were invited to be a guest blogger on The Design Files, which was a lot of fun! And this year we've committed to fundraising for a charity at every event, supporting various not-for-profit causes close to our members' hearts, including the Red Cross and Sids and Kids.
I continue to seek out women from a variety of creative backgrounds to speak at our events - stylists, bloggers, retailers, business coaches, PR professionals, textile designers, artists. I see the value in learning from people in different or complimentary industries to my own, and I hope you do as well. (If you know of someone you'd like to hear speak or profiled on the blog, let me know!)
So, it has been a fun ride so far this year, and I can't wait to share with you some of the plans we have for the next 12 months.
At our upcoming event this Saturday, one of those 'plans' will be revealed! It's so exciting I could burst. But don't worry, if you won't be joining us on Saturday, I'll be sharing the details here soon.
Thanks as always to YOU for making the Creative Women's Circle what it is - and inspiring, informative ideas-hub for creative women.
